Launceston players will soon be buying up Cataract Gorge instead of Park Lane, with the city set to get its own Monopoly edition next year.
The board game will launch in mid-2026, making Launceston the second Tasmanian city to get its own version after Hobart in 2021.
Mayor Matthew Garwood said it was a unique chance to put the city on the map.
“This is a really exciting opportunity for Launceston to be showcased as the second region here in Tassie to have its own Monopoly board,” he said.

Local landmarks will replace the traditional London properties, with board designers calling on the community to suggest what should make the cut.
Early favourites include Cataract Gorge, the Queen Victoria Museum and Art Gallery, City Park and the Tamar Valley wine region.

Monopoly representative Jaime-Lee de Niet said the company was keen to return to the island state.
“It’s been a few years since we launched a Tasmania regional board and we’re thrilled to be back in this beautiful state,” de Niet said.
“From Boag’s Brewery and City Park to iconic events like Festivale, we can’t wait to see what the community wants to feature on the board.”
Mayor Garwood said he was especially curious about how suburb boundaries would be handled, with areas like Prospect and Blackstone technically outside Launceston’s limits, but still part of greater Launceston.

“I’m excited that people in Launceston can actually have a say,” he said.
The Hobart edition currently sells for around $70 and includes local spots like Battery Point, the Port Arthur Historic Site and Kunanyi/Mount Wellington.
First released in 1935, Monopoly now boasts more than one billion players worldwide.
The Launceston version will join hundreds of custom editions created for cities and regions around the globe.
