Stage one of a major makeover for UTAS Stadium has been completed, with players and officials already enjoying refurbished facilities at the Launceston venue.
The initial works have delivered renovated change rooms, medical facilities and warm-up spaces that meet Australian tier 2 sporting code guidelines, with local firm Fairbrother handling construction.
Sports Minister Nick Duigan said feedback from the recent night AFL game had been overwhelmingly positive.
“These works were completed in time for the first AFL clash of the season at UTAS Stadium,” Duigan said.

The completed upgrades represent the beginning of a $130 million redevelopment jointly funded by federal and state governments.
Stage two will commence within two months and is expected to be finished by early 2027, bringing a host of new features to the stadium.

“The works include a new eastern stand, a new centre west stand, and south-east entry plaza. Upgrades to the broadcasting facilities, new changes rooms and hospitality facilities [will be undertaken] on the western side,” Duigan said.
The renovation will increase seating capacity by 2000 to more than 17,000 and enhance the spectator experience with improved food and beverage options.
“This revitalisation project will ensure UTAS Stadium will continue to host world-class events, inspiring the next generation of sporting stars and reinforcing Tasmania’s status as a premier destination for major events and sporting excellence,” the Minister said.
Hawthorn Football Club recently extended its agreement with the Tasmanian Government, which will see the Hawks play AFL pre-season and premiership season games at the venue until 2027.
