Franklin Liberal MP Jacquie Petrusma will be off the campaign trail after sustaining a serious hamstring injury requiring urgent surgery.
Petrusma was rushed to the Royal Hobart Hospital’s Emergency Department earlier this week after suffering what doctors diagnosed as a proximal hamstring injury.
“Following medical advice, I will be undergoing urgent surgery and will need to rest, use crutches and recover at home for the next six weeks, before commencing rehab,” Petrusma said in a statement this morning.
The MP will now be unable to conduct face-to-face campaigning ahead of the July 19 election.

Despite the setback, Petrusma insists she remains committed to her campaign and serving constituents.
“While you won’t see me out and about over the coming weeks, I remain very committed to our campaign and serving the Tasmanian community during this time,” she said.

The MP said she will continue engaging with the community via phone during her recovery period.
“I will continue to do all I can to engage with our community and to hear their insights, concerns, and ideas over the phone, even though I cannot meet face to face,” Petrusma said.
In her statement, she took the opportunity to praise healthcare workers who treated her at the Royal Hobart Hospital.
“I am incredibly grateful to our hardworking doctors, nurses, physiotherapists, radiographers and all the other healthcare professionals at the Royal Hobart Hospital who have cared for me over the last few days,” Petrusma said.

“Their treatment and care have been faultless and are a wonderful testament to the health workers strong dedication and commitment they have in our hospitals.”
