The Liberals have pleged $10 million to address the persistent weather-related closures affecting the Esk Main Road at St Marys Pass if elected.
The critical East Coast transport route has suffered from regular landslips and closures during severe weather events.
Liberal candidate for Lyons, Susie Bower, said the investment would advance planning and design work for a permanent solution to the road’s vulnerability.
“Landslips and closures cause significant delays for commuters, often resulting in reduced tourist numbers with the flow on effect impacting local business and hospitality outlets,” Bower said.

The commitment would support efforts to develop a preferred option for upgrading the pass, working alongside both the Tasmanian Government and Break O’Day Council once community consultation is completed.
According to Bower, the upgrade would provide certainty for various groups who rely on the connection.

“Upgrading St Marys Pass will provide residents, tourists, business and visiting professionals guaranteed access to and from the coast year round,” she said.
