The funding package includes drainage improvements for Perth Recreation Ground, which experienced flooding issues in recent years.

“I remember in 2024 when the Perth Football Club had to abandon plans to host the finals series at the Recreation Ground due to flooding. These funds will help make sure there is not a repeat of that event,” Bower said.

“This investment also will deliver better recreation facilities, and improve residents’ access to the South Esk River, enhancing the natural environment for residents and visitors.”

The plans feature the development of a bike pump track on the western end of Perth’s Illawarra Road and extensions to the shared pathways network from Oakmount Road to Haggerston Road and Youl Road.

Perth’s population increased by 35% between 2011 and 2021

A picnic shelter, toilets and playground to increase pedestrian access to the South Esk River are also included.

Perth has experienced a 35% population increase between 2011-2021, establishing itself as a popular destination for families seeking a relaxed lifestyle 15 minutes from Launceston.
