Lightning strikes twice for Tasmanian business at annual export awards

A Tasmanian company protecting infrastructure from lightning strikes around the world has been crowned the 2025 Tasmanian Exporter of the Year.

Lightning Protection International took the top honour at the 31st Tasmanian Export Awards held in Hobart tonight.

The Huntingfield-based manufacturer, which designs and produces lightning protection, surge protection and earthing systems, has grown to export to more than 100 countries since its establishment in 2002.

Minister for Small Business, Trade and Consumer Affairs Guy Barnett said the awards showcased Tasmania’s impressive export capabilities.

“We know that our export sector is thriving with goods and service exports reaching $6.16 billion for 2023-24,” Barnett said.

“The awards showcase the impressive breadth of exporting capabilities in Tasmania, recognising industries across multiple sectors including the creative arts, technology, advanced manufacturing and food and beverages.”

LPI also claimed the Manufacturing and Advanced Materials category award, sponsored by the Tasmanian Minerals, Manufacturing and Energy Council.

The company’s commitment to scientific innovation and quality has helped it become a globally respected name in lightning protection over more than two decades.

This year’s awards attracted 56 submissions across 11 categories, with winners including Geoneon (Technologies), Tasman Sea Salt (Agribusiness, Food and Beverage) and Three Warriors (Small Business).

National celebrity Sonia Kruger called Three Warriors founder Corbin Halliday on speakerphone as he accepted his award to express her pride in the tanning product company’s achievement.

Ship manfucaturer Incat won the Sustainability and Green Economy award.

Pasture.io won the Professional Services award, Tasmanian Seaweed Fertilisers won Emerging Exporter and Scootboot won the e-Commerce award.

Archipelago Productions, the company behind the hit Bay of Fires TV show won the Creative Industries award, while Hai Loong Seafood won Regional Exporter.

All category winners will represent Tasmania at the national Export Awards in Canberra in November.

“Helping more Tasmanian companies to export and share our high-quality products and services with the rest of the world will strengthen our economy and create more job opportunities for Tasmanians,” Barnett said.
