The outgoing head of Salmon Tasmania is set to dive back into the world of politics, joining the Labor leader’s office after a brief stint with the salmon industry body.
Luke Martin, whose departure from Salmon Tasmania was announced on Friday, will take up a position with Tasmanian Labor Leader Dean Winter.
The move marks a return to familiar territory for Martin, who began his career in politics as a 19-year-old in the office of the late Labor Premier Jim Bacon and former Treasurer Michael Aird.
Winter welcomed Martin’s appointment, citing his extensive experience across Tasmanian industry.

“With over 20 years of experience across Tasmanian business and industry Luke has proven to be a powerful advocate for jobs and workers across the state,” Winter said in a statement to Pulse.
“I’m excited to welcome him to my team as Labor continues to build momentum and back in jobs and our regional industries which support them.”

Martin joined Salmon Tasmania in 2023 after previously leading the Tourism Industry Council of Tasmania.
Salmon Tasmania Chairman Lyall Howard describing the change as a “changing of the guard”.
Dr John Whittington, a former Secretary of the Department of Primary Industries, Parks, Water and Environment, has been named as Martin’s replacement at Salmon Tasmania.
