A man in his seventies has died after a head-on crash on the Lyell Highway at Sorell Creek overnight.
Emergency services were called to the stretch between Granton and New Norfolk just after 9:15pm on Thursday, following reports of a two-car collision.
The man, who was the only person in his vehicle, died at the scene.
Early investigations suggest he may have suffered a medical episode before the crash, though a full investigation is underway.
The people in the second vehicle escaped without injury.
Police are now asking anyone who saw a silver Great Wall utility in the area around the time of the crash to come forward.
A report will be prepared for the coroner as investigations into the exact circumstances of the crash continue.
Police have extended their condolences to the man’s family and loved ones.
The Lyell Highway is one of Tasmania’s main routes, linking Hobart with the Derwent Valley and the West Coast.
