Jesse Clark, Executive GM for Assets and Infrastructure at Hydro Tasmania, said engineers had been inspecting the Hydro dams and infrastructure in the surrounding areas.

“Quite fortunately it was a small relatively small earthquake compared to what we get nervous about and we’ve already conducted inspections around most of these assets, Edgar Dam, Gordon Power Station, and and I’m feeling quite comfortable,” he told Local Radio.

“We have not been able to see any damage whatsoever at this stage. The information we’ve got at this stage is the probability of damage is extremely low at this level.”

“For major damage at Edgar Dam or something … we’re talking something up in the really high … magnitude 6.8, 6.9 or bigger.”

He said the quake occurred in close proximity to the Lake Edgar fault line, but was not able to confirm whether this morning’s fault was directly related.
