Leigh Geoffrey Sushames: Man accused of killing Tasmanian police officer faces court

A 46-year-old man has appeared in court charged with the murder of a police officer who was allegedly shot dead at a Tasmanian home.

Leigh Geoffrey Sushames appeared via video link in the Launceston Magistrates Court on Monday over the death of Constable Keith Smith.

Constable Smith was serving a court-ordered repossession notice when he was fatally shot at a property in North Motton, in the state’s north-west, last month.

Sushames has been charged with murder, attempted murder and aggravated assault over the June 16 incident.

He did not enter a plea during Monday’s hearing and has been remanded in custody to reappear in court on August 11.
