Man accused of pulling knife at Launceston Christmas event returns to court

A man accused of brandishing a knife at a Launceston Christmas event has had his case adjourned after a new charge emerged.

Kings Meadows man Daniel Woodward appeared via video link in the Launceston Magistrates Court on Monday.

The 30-year-old is accused of producing a 30 centimetre knife while among a crowd of about 2,000 people attending a family carol event in City Park on December 21.

Police arrested him at the scene.

Woodward faces charges of being unlawfully armed in public and unlawfully possessing a dangerous article in a public place.

He was due to enter a plea on Monday, but his lawyer told the court a new stealing charge had been laid in relation to a new matter.

An adjournment without plea was requested and granted.

Woodward remains in custody and will next appear in court via video link on February 2.
