Man allegedly sets fire to bag inside Moonah McDonald’s store

A man allegedly set fire to a bag inside McDonald’s at Moonah in Hobart’s northern suburbs shortly before 1am on Thursday, filling the restaurant with smoke before fleeing the scene.

Footage obtained by Pulse shows flames around a half a metre high coming from a four-seated table inside the restaurant.

The store’s manager acted quickly to put the fire out and no one was injured.

It is understood a customer set fire to his own bag, causing minimal damage to a seat and producing a large amount of smoke.

Inspector Jason Klug said police attended and one person was taken into custody

Inspector Jason Klug said police were called to the scene.

“Police attended the scene and one person was taken into custody in relation to other matters,” he told Pulse.

The Moonah store opened its doors in 1989 as the state’s first ever McDonald’s restaurant.
