Updated 11:25pm, Wednesday August 28: A man has been charged with murder following the death of a 42-year-old in Launceston.
The 27-year-old from Newnham was arrested after police responded to reports of a stabbing incident on Tompsons Lane at around 2:45pm on Wednesday.
The victim from Mowbray was found with serious injuries and taken to the Launceston General Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
The pair were known to each other, police said.
Tasmania Police are expected to provide further details on Thursday morning.
Earlier: A man has died in hospital after a stabbing incident in Launceston this afternoon.
Police and emergency services responded to an address in Tompsons Lane, Newnham, around 2:45pm following reports a man had been stabbed.
The victim was rushed to the Launceston General Hospital with serious injuries, but later passed away.
A man was arrested at the scene and is currently in custody assisting police with their inquiries.
Investigators remain at the scene and say there is no threat to the wider community.
A report will be prepared for the coroner.
“Our thoughts are with the man’s family and loved ones at this difficult time,” police said.
