A man has been arrested after a dramatic low-speed police chase through northern Tasmania in an allegedly stolen truck.

Pulse understands the man failed to return the hire vehicle before the incident unfolded in Launceston on Wednesday.

Footage obtained by Pulse shows the white Hino tipper being driven on what appears to be a flat tyre, with several police units in pursuit on the ground and a helicopter tracking from above.

At one point, the truck was seen travelling on the wrong side of the road.

A Tasmania Police spokesperson told Pulse the ordeal came to an end on Prossers Forest Road in Ravenswood a short time ago.

They confirmed a 27-year-old Newnham man is now in custody following the “evade incident”.
