Police have charged a 26-year-old Geeveston man with motor vehicle stealing, attempted carjacking, aggravated burglary and driving offences after a terrifying incident in Kingston last night.

Police alledge the man reportedly stole a Subaru Forester from Huonville before ‘driving at speed’ towards Kingston on the Huon Highway.

The offender was allegedly involved in ‘several incidents’ along the highway before being located by police in the garage of a Drysdale Avenue residence in Kingston, where he reportedly attempted to steal another car.

Kingston resident Darran Petty rushed downstairs after hearing ‘screaming’ coming from his basement around 10 PM on Monday, where he found the ‘drugged up’ man who’d reportedly trapped himself in the garage.

Petty says Police officers were already looking for the man and stormed the house, tackling the offender to the ground.

“The bloke was better off being arrested by the police than dealing with me,” said Petty – a professional Jiu Jitsu instructor.

The man will appear in the Hobart Magistrates Court today, and say thankfully no one was injured as a result of the incidents.
