A 29-year-old West Hobart man has been charged with recording in breach of privacy following an incident at a public toilet facility at Kingston Beach.
Police arrested the man after responding to reports that a woman had been filmed while using the facilities.
The incident, which occurred around 3pm on Wednesday afternoon, was reported by a woman who noticed a paper bag with a cutout placed in front of her cubicle containing what appeared to be a phone camera.
“As I was using the toilet, I noticed someone put a paper bag down in front of my cubicle and I noticed a phone camera filming me,” she wrote to Pulse.

The woman reportedly began recording the situation herself for evidence before contacting police.
The alleged perpetrator initially left the scene but later returned to the facility where the woman was able to identify him to responding officers.

Tasmania Police have launched an appeal for witnesses to come forward, particularly a man who reportedly assisted the woman until police arrived at the scene.
The woman has since expressed concerns about the safety of the facilities, especially given the beach area’s popularity with families and young children.
“I’m disgusted that there are people around an area that is frequented by young families,” she wrote.
Police are encouraging anyone with information about the incident to contact them on 131 444 or to provide information anonymously through Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or online at Crimestopperstas.com.au, quoting reference OR 793854.
