A man has been charged with high-range drink driving after allegedly being caught more than four times over the legal alcohol limit yesterday.
The 42-year-old from Somerset in the state’s north-west was reportedly driving erratically along the Tasman Highway in Hobart around midday on Sunday.
Police said officers intercepted the man near Cambridge, behind the wheel of a silver Mercedes GT63S, travelling in the direction of Sorell.
The car was stopped near the entrance to the Tasmania Golf Club and the man was arrested at the scene.
He was taken to Bellerive Police Station, where a breath test returned a blood alcohol reading of 0.226.

The man has been handed a 12-month road safety disqualification and bailed to appear in court at a later date.
Police reminded drivers that alcohol and drugs remain among the “fatal five” contributing factors to serious and fatal crashes on Tasmanian roads.
“It is particularly concerning that some individuals continue to ignore the law and choose to drive under the influence, putting themselves and other road users at serious risk,” police said.
Officers are appealing for dash cam footage of the Mercedes, registration K02MA, seen on the Tasman Highway around 12pm yesterday.
