A Lilydale man is facing serious firearms and drink driving charges after allegedly firing a shotgun near patrons outside a local hotel.
Police responded to the alarming incident at the Lilydale Tavern yesterday evening when the 44-year-old allegedly discharged the weapon in close proximity to bystanders shortly before 8pm.
Authorities were called to the scene at approximately 7:50pm following reports that a male driver had fired a shotgun near people standing outside the venue.
Police say no injuries were reported and no property damage occurred.

The man fled the scene in his vehicle but was quickly apprehended by responding officers.
When police located and stopped the suspect’s vehicle, they discovered a loaded shotgun inside.

The 44-year-old Lilydale local was taken into custody without further incident.
He has been charged with multiple offences related to firearms and drink driving.
The accused is scheduled to appear before the Launceston Magistrates Court in an after-hours session tonight.
