Man dies after car hits power poles in West Ulverstone crash

A Devonport man has died after his car hit two power poles on Penguin Road in West Ulverstone late last night.

The 50-year-old is understood to have died at the scene. The crash happened about 11:30pm on Thursday.

A 20-year-old passenger was seriously injured and taken to the North-West Regional Hospital.

The impact cut power to thousands of homes and businesses across West Ulverstone. About 400 remain in the dark this morning.

TasNetworks this morning said power should be restored to the local area this afternoon.

Crash investigators are working to determine what caused the vehicle to leave the road.

“Police are calling for witnesses to the crash or any person who observed the vehicle’s manner of driving to come forward,” a spokesperson said.

Penguin Road remains closed between Undara Cresent and Rockliffs Road while police continue their investigations.
