Man dies in tragic boating incident during rough conditions off South Arm

A man has lost his life following a boating incident at Roaring Beach in Southern Tasmania on Friday morning after his vessel capsized in rough conditions.

Emergency services were called to the scene around 8.45am after reports that a boat with two people aboard had experienced engine failure and was struck by large waves.

One man managed to make it back to shore safely and raised the alarm. He was subsequently transported to the Royal Hobart Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

A search operation was immediately launched involving the Westpac Rescue Helicopter, police vessels and civilian boats to locate the missing man.

Tragically, searchers found the missing man along with the overturned vessel approximately 9.40am, less than an hour after the initial emergency call.

“Our thoughts are with the man’s loved ones,” a police spokesperson said.

Police have not yet released details about the identity of the deceased man or the exact circumstances that led to the engine failure.
