A man is fighting for his life in hospital after being struck by a car in a hit-and-run crash in northern Tasmania this morning.
Emergency services were called to Rowella Road in Kayena, about 35 minutes north of Launceston, just before 8am on Wednesday.
Police said the vehicle involved fled the scene before officers arrived but was located nearby a short time later.
The driver, who was not physically injured, is assisting police with their inquiries.
The victim was rushed to the Launceston General Hospital with serious injuries.
He remains in a critical but stable condition, according to police.
Police are appealing for witnesses to come forward.
