Alcohol suspected to have contributed to River Derwent jet ski crash that left man hospitalised

A jet ski crash on the River Derwent overnight has left one man hospitalised and prompted a police investigation into whether alcohol played a role.

Two men were on the jet ski at Granton just after 6pm on Tuesday when they lost control and crashed.

The driver sustained minor injuries and was transported to the Royal Hobart Hospital, while his passenger escaped unharmed.

The injured man has undergone mandatory blood testing, as investigators suspect alcohol may have been a “contributing factor” to the incident.

Police are urging witnesses who may have captured footage of the area around the time of the crash to come forward.
