Man in his 70s reported missing after boat washes ashore at Kingston Beach

Police are continuing their search for a man in his 70s after his boat washed ashore at Kingston Beach on the outskirts of Hobart yesterday afternoon.

Acting Inspector Peter Borish said the unoccupied boat was found beached around 2pm on Wednesday.

“Information to date indicates the man boarded the vessel alone at the Derwent Park Marina and departed around 7am,” he said.

“The man … has now been reported as missing by his family.”

Extensive searches of the area were carried out yesterday afternoon and evening by police and Surf Life Saving vessels and multiple helicopters.

Borish said these searches will continue today.

Police would like to hear from anyone who may have seen the vessel or the man in the area since 7am yesterday.

“Anyone with information that may assist the police investigation is asked to contact police on 131 444,” Borish said.
