A man has been shot in the leg during an alleged “altercation” at a Launceston home early on Saturday morning.
Tasmania Police said a man entered a property on Pleasant Street in Mowbray around 4:25am and became involved in a dispute with the 38-year-old resident.
During the scuffle, a gun went off, striking the 38-year-old in his lower left leg, police said.
“The firearm involved is thought to be a small calibre rifle, possibility a .22,” a spokesperson said.
The injured man was treated at the Launceston General Hospital before being transferred to the Royal Hobart Hospital.

Police said his injuries are not life-threatening and no one else in the home was injured.
“It is believed that the persons were known to each other,” police said.
“The injured man has provided police with only limited information.”
No one has been arrested and police are continuing to investigate.
“Police are interested in viewing dashcam or CCTV footage of the Pleasant Street, Mowbray area, from earlier today,” the spokesperson said.
“The public can also report anonymously to Crime Stoppers.”
