A wild storm, complete with thunder and lightning, that rumbled across Tasmania overnight has been called the ‘best in ages’ by weather enthusiasts.

Much of the state experienced dozens of ‘huge booms’ and ‘bright flashes’ during the Saturday night severe weather event, with three larger ‘house-shaking bangs’ reported around 11:53pm.

Shortly after, Firefighters were called to a blaze on the roof of the Zero Davey building that went up in flames around midnight.

Warnings for the severe thunderstorm were officially issued for the north of the state by the Bureau of Meteorology early in the evening, with a warning for the south following shortly after.
