Ulverstone’s Meghan Gaffney will make history as Tasmania’s first VFLW captain when the Devils begin their foundation season in May.
The 23-year-old will lead a five-person leadership group that includes vice-captain Georgia Hill, with Perri King, Georgia Nicholas and Dearne Krushka completing the team.
Gaffney returned to Tasmania earlier this year after playing 16 games for GWS in the AFLW.
She was drafted by the Giants with pick 66 in the 2022 NAB AFLW Draft, where she predominantly played on the wing.

“Being named as the inaugural VFLW captain for the state I grew up in is a real honour,” Gaffney said.
“I’m so grateful to be able to lead such an incredible group of girls throughout the season.”

The leadership group combines experienced players with emerging talent to guide the Devils through their historic debut campaign.
The appointment go Gaffney as captain is another milestone for the Devils as they prepare for their VFLW season opener against the Casey Demons at North Hobart Oval on May 16.
The inaugural season represents a major milestone for women’s football in Tasmania, as the Devils enter the competition at the tier below the AFLW.
