Men allegedly kidnap Launceston man, force him to withdraw cash

Two men have been charged with kidnapping a Launceston man and allegedly forcing him to withdraw cash from a business earlier this month.

Police were called to the incident just before 3pm on Friday, 14th June after a man was reportedly taken to a business to withdraw cash after being assaulted at a private residence in Punchbowl.

“The alleged victim alerted the business, who contacted police,” a spokesperson said.

“The man received non-life-threatening injuries as a result of the incident.”

A 31-year-old Ravenswood man was last week charged and appeared in court for kidnapping, aggravated robbery, assault and motor vehicle stealing.

A 24-year-old Launceston man was today charged with kidnapping, aggravated robbery, assault and motor vehicle stealing.

He was detained to appear in the Launceston Magistrates Court at a later date.

Police, who made the incident public after almost two weeks, said investigations remain ongoing.

“Anyone with information should contact police on 131 444 or Crime Stoppers anonymously,” they said.
