Metro Tasmania bus drivers in the greater Hobart area have brought the network to a standstill, striking over pay and conditions.

The Rail, Tram and Bus Union (RTBU) action affected services on multiple routes across the city on Friday.

A Metro spokesperson said the company was able to “pre-plan to minimise the disruption” and acknowledged that services were impacted.

They also thanked customers for their patience.

The stop-work action came as the RTBU argues a current pay offer in front on Metro driver misses the mark.

“The government must intervene and support drivers through better pay to end the dispute,” the RTBU said.

“Support for drivers is sky high throughout the community.”

Metro has proposed a wage increase of 18% over three years, with a 12% increase in the first year.

The company has described its offer as “fair, reasonable and affordable”.

“We look forward to working together to reach an agreement for our staff as soon as possible,” the spokesperson said.
