Tasmanians will enjoy free bus travel on Christmas Day again as Metro waives fares across its network in Hobart, Launceston and Burnie.
The initiative aims to help people connect with family and friends during the festive period without worrying about transport costs.
Services will run according to the Sunday/public holiday timetable on Thursday December 25, with all trips free throughout the day.
Acting CEO Laurie Hansen said the operator recognises Christmas can be a “busy and important time for many Tasmanians”.

“We want to make it easier for people to travel safely and comfortably,” Hansen said.
“By offering free travel, we hope to give customers one less thing to worry about as they connect with loved ones or access important services on the day.”

The free service extends across Metro’s entire network across Hobart, Launceston and Burnie.
“I’d like to acknowledge our drivers and operational staff who keep Tasmania moving, even on Christmas Day,” Hansen said.
“Their ongoing dedication allows us to continue supporting the community throughout the festive season.”
Metro is encouraging passengers to plan ahead by checking timetables before travelling, with information available through the Metro Trip Planner tool on its website or via the Metro Tas App.
