The wheels on the new Metro electric buses have stopped spinning for now as technical issues interrupt the trial.

CEO Katie Cooper said their two-year trial was part of the state-owned business’s goal of maintaining net-zero greenhouse emissions, or lower, by 2030.

She said the “teething issues” have been experienced since the launch but stressed they were “not unexpected”.

“The issues are mainly associated with software issues and supporting components,” Cooper said.

“Importantly, there were no safety issues for staff or customers.

“Metro is working closely with the manufacturer, Custom Denning, to resolve as soon as possible.”

Cooper said the electric services will resume once these matters have been resolved.
