Guzman y Gomez are known for their Mexican-inspired burritos, nachos, tacos, quesadillas and other items.

Guzman y Gomez plan to become Australia’s ‘biggest takeaway outlet’

Tasmanian Premier Jeremy Rockliff welcomed the “awesome” news, saying it was fantastic to see more brands recognising the value of crossing the Bass Strait and investing in Tasmania.

“Just a week after we had word that Grill’d was coming to Tassie, it looks like another renowned brand is set to hit our shores,” he said.

Tasmania is currently the only state in Australia without a Guzman y Gomez store, with 185 other outlets already open across the country.

The chain is set to compete against well-established Mexican cuisine outlet Zambrero, who have seven stores in Hobart, two stores in Launceston and one store in Devonport.

The brand was founded in Sydney in 2006 by New Yorkers and childhood best friends Steven Marks and Robert Hazan, who both ‘missed the authentic fresh flavours of Mexican cuisine’ that they had grown up with in America.
