Tasmania’s Heartlands region is set to receive a $150,000 investment under a new state government plan.
The funding will go towards developing a blueprint that identifies key tourism opportunities to drive growth in the region, which emcompasses the Midlands and Highlands areas.
Premier Jeremy Rockliff said the project will focus on connecting visitors from main touring routes to the highlands and lakes in the area.
“The Heartlands is the centre of Tasmania, the untapped neighbouring region to the Midlands that so many visitors pass through but don’t always stop to experience,” he said.
Destination Southern Tasmania CEO Alex Heroys said the organisation sees the area as a growth opportunity and a vital link between different parts of the state.
“We know there is huge potential to increase the tourism product in the Heartlands,” he said.
“This work will help us identify the profile of travellers to the Heartlands region to better inform what the visitor experience looks like and outline the location and focus of any potential future development.”
The project is expected to be completed by June 2025.
