A family from Tasmania’s Southern Midlands is mourning the sudden and unexpected loss of their father, Shawn Spangler, in a freak accident.

The 47-year-old electrician passed away on Friday after a fall while home alone, leaving behind eight children aged 8 to 25 and his former partner Jodi.

Shawn’s employer, Lifestyle Electrical, took to social media to pay tribute to their valued team member of 18 years.

“Shawn was not only a dedicated and hardworking professional but also a kind-hearted and cherished colleague who became part of the fabric of our company,” they said.

According to family friend Erin Cole, Spangler’s death comes at a particularly difficult time for the family, as their son, 20-year-old Connor Spangler, is currently in hospital after suffering a brain aneurysm in September.

“This horrific news comes just months after their son suffered his own medical episode which has left him recovering but still in hospital with mounting stress and bills to pay,” Cole said.

“As with many accidents, this situation puts a huge financial stress on this amazing family that makes the emotional stress even worse and nearly unbearable.”

A GoFundMe page has been set up with the permission of Jodi to help cover funeral and medical expenses.

More than $6000 has so far been raised for the family.
