People across southern Tasmania witnessed a spectacular aerial display today as the Royal Australian Air Force conducted commemorative flights marking the 85th anniversary of the Battle of Britain.
The RAAF’s impressive C-17A Globemaster III aircraft performed scheduled flypasts over Hobart at 11am and 11:30am, drawing the attention of onlookers from as far south as Dover.
The aerial display formed part of a memorial service held at the Hobart Cenotaph on Sunday to honour one of World War II’s most decisive air campaigns.
The Battle of Britain was fought between July and October 1940.

The Royal Air Force and allied aviators, including Australians, successfully defended Britain against intense German Luftwaffe bombing campaigns.
