A runaway tyre rolling at high speed down one of Hobart’s busiest streets in peak-hour traffic has sparked concern from police.
Video footage circulating online shows the tyre speeding down Liverpool Street from the Tasman Highway and through the Railway Roundabout around 8am on Wednesday.
The incident, which police were not aware of before being contacted by Pulse, has sparked an investigation into the potentially dangerous situation.
“Tasmania Police is now looking into the incident, which had not previously been drawn to their attention,” a police spokesperson said.

“Fortunately, no other vehicle or pedestrian was struck or damaged in this incident.”
While no injuries were reported, authorities have expressed serious concern about the potential risks posed by the runaway tyre.

“Significant potential for injury or damage existed, particularly if the wheel had struck a motorcyclist or pedestrian,” the spokesperson added.
