A popular walking track leading to one of Tasmania’s tallest waterfalls has been closed indefinitely due to recent storm damage.

The Montezuma Falls Walking Track winds through wet, steep and densely forested West Coast terrain along a former tramway to the base of the 104-metre falls.

Parks and Wildlife Service (PWS) this week closed the track after strong winds brought down dozens of large trees over the remote path.

PWS said the track will remain closed until all “severe damage” repairs are completed.

The falls are located just over an hour away from both Strahan and Queenstown on the Murchison Highway.
