Roadworks on the Huon Highway will cause traffic disruptions for motorists travelling between Kingston and the Huon Valley from early January until late March.
The extensive repair and strengthening works will involve lane closures and reduced speed limits.
Motorists are being advised to allow up to 15 minutes of additional travel time during construction hours.
Work crews will begin operations at two key locations simultaneously from Monday January 5, targeting sections near Leslie Road in Leslie Vale and between Summerleas Road and the Southern Outlet interchange in Kingston.

The Leslie Vale section will see workers active from 7am to 6pm daily, with lane closures and reduced speed limits in place around the clock.
Night works are also scheduled between Sunday January 11 and Wednesday January 14 from 6pm to 6am to install new drainage infrastructure.

For the Kingston section, lane closures will operate during working hours of 9am to 6pm, with reduced speed limits enforced throughout the project’s duration.
State Growth say they have strategically timed the Kingston works to avoid morning peak traffic and capitalise on reduced traffic volumes during school holidays.
The roadworks form part of the Australian and Tasmanian governments’ joint Freight Capacity Upgrade Program, which aims to strengthen roads and bridges across Tasmania to improve reliability for heavy vehicle operators.
Both construction projects are expected to be completed by late March 2026, weather permitting.
