A 23-year-old Moonah man is facing firearms charges allegedly after being found in possession of what witnesses described as a “very real” looking gun.
The man was taken into custody in Moonah around 5pm on Wednesday after Tasmania Police officers seized what was confirmed to be a replica firearm.
Witnesses at the scene told Pulse they were alarmed by the realistic appearance of the weapon.
“The only note that it as fake was a red plug in the barrel,” a witness said.
“The [officer] on site looked a bit shocked by the discovery, initially thought it was a real gun.”

Tasmania Police confirmed no threats were made during the incident.
“It was a replica firearm,” a Tasmania Police spokesperson said.
“No threats were made and it was seized by police.”
The man has been charged with possessing a firearm to which a firearms licence cannot be issued.
