Tasmania now has 59 Medicare bulk billing practices that’s making healthcare more affordable for thousands of families.
The state’s GP bulk billing rate has risen to 77 per cent, up 5.4 percent from a year ago.
Nationally, bulk billing rates are at 81.4 per cent with more than 3,400 practices across Australia offering bulk billing.
Federal Franklin MP Julie Collins said Tasmanians shouldn’t have to blow a hole in their budget to see a doctor.

“Tasmanians should only need a Medicare card to see a doctor, not a credit card which is why we have delivered these reforms,” Collins said.
“If clinics in Sydney and Melbourne can offer bulk billing, they can do it in Tasmania.”

About 96 per cent of Australians now live within a 20-minute drive of a registered bulk billing practice.
The rise in bulk billing practices complement Tasmania’s seven Medicare Urgent Care Clinics in Hobart, Launceston, Devonport, Bridgewater and Sorell.
Two additional clinics will open in Burnie and Kingston in early 2026.
