“Those numbers are likely to rise as people wake-up and discover further outages,” a spokesperson said.

“Another cold front that is currently located over northwestern Tasmania will shift rapidly towards the east this morning, producing another round of gusty conditions across the state today.”

The Bureau says peak gusts of around 100km/h are possible about western and northern coasts and nearby inland areas.

“Winds are expected to gradually ease below severe thresholds overnight tonight.”

Overnight a 131km/h wind gust was recorded at kunanyi/Mount Wellington and sustained 65km/h winds were measured at Devonport Airport.
