A Mornington man has had his vehicle clamped after allegedly being caught driving 56km/h above the speed limit on the Tasman Highway in peak-hour traffic.
The 40-year-old driver was detected by Tasmania Police’s Road Policing Services travelling at 166km/h in a 110km/h zone near Mornington at 5:30pm on Tuesday evening.
Acting Sergeant Mehdi Mohammadi said the blue hatchback was approaching Mornington when police recorded the excessive speed.
“It’s disappointing that some road users continue to place themselves and others at risk by travelling at such high speeds,” Acting Sergeant Mohammadi said.

The driver is now facing a $1,146 fine and a licence disqualification of up to four months.
His vehicle has been clamped for 28 days.

“This is another example of poor driver behaviour and could have easily resulted in serious injury or death for the driver or other road users,” Acting Sergeant Mohammadi said.
Police are urging members of the public to report dangerous driving when they witness it, either by calling 131 444 at the time of the incident or Triple Zero (000) in emergency situations.
Those with dashcam or other footage of dangerous driving can upload it directly to police via the Tasmania Police website at police.tas.gov.au/report/.
