A motorcycle rider has been caught travelling at 60km/h above the posted speed limit on a southern Tasmanian road this morning.
Police detected the motorcyclist speeding at 140km/h in an 80km/h zone on Brinktop Road as they approached Richmond township.
The rider now faces a significant fine of $1,146 and a licence disqualification of up to four months for the dangerous breach of road rules.
“It’s disappointing that road users continue to place themselves and others at risk by travelling at such high speeds,” a Tasmania Police spokesperson said.
The incident has prompted police to remind motorists of the serious consequences of excessive speeding.

“This is another example of poor driver behaviour and could have easily resulted in serious injury or tragedy to the rider or other road users,” the spokesperson added.
“Police have the power to clamp or seize vehicles detected travelling excessively over the limit.”
Police are urging the public to assist in identifying dangerous driving by reporting incidents immediately.
Anyone who witnesses dangerous driving is encouraged to report it to police on 131 444, or alternatively, those with footage can upload it through the Tasmania Police website at police.tas.gov.au/report/.
