The rider sustained critical injuries and died at the scene, police said.

A retired nurse who was passing by stopped to help and performed CPR on the man, but he could not be revived.

The driver of the car was not physically injured in the crash.

Vermont Road was closed for several hours as crash investigators examined the scene. It has since reopened.

Police said investigations into the circumstances of the crash were ongoing.

“Anyone with information or relevant dash cam footage is asked to contact police on 131 444,” police said in a statement.
