A motorcyclist has died in a crash on the Tasman Highway in the early hours of this morning.
The single-vehicle collision occurred around 12:30am on Saturday, close to the Warrane overpass.
Police say officers had attempted to stop the motorbike a short time earlier at the shoreline roundabout in Howrah.
“Upon police arrival, CPR was provided however sadly the motorcyclist died at the scene,” a spokesperson said.
“As is normal practice in these circumstances, a professional standards investigation will be conducted into the incident to determine the circumstances surrounding the crash.”
“While the investigation is in its early stages, evidence suggests that the police vehicle was not in the immediate vicinity of the motorcycle, or under lights and sirens, at the time of the crash.”
The highway was closed in both directions between the Mornington Roundabout and Rosny until 9am on Saturday, with diverted onto Rosny Hill and Cambridge roads.
Police are calling for any witnesses to come forward as they investigate and prepare a report for the coroner.
