Motorcyclist killed in four-vehicle crash on West Tamar Highway

A 34-year-old motorcyclist has died following a multi-vehicle collision on the West Tamar Highway near Launceston this afternoon.

The Grindelwald man was travelling north on a black Kawasaki Ninja when the crash occurred at approximately 4:45pm on Monday near Danbury Drive South.

Initial police investigations indicate the motorcycle struck a Toyota Hiace van travelling in the same direction before colliding with a white Toyota Hilux.

The impact caused a chain reaction, resulting in minor damage to a second Toyota Hilux.

Emergency services rushed the critically injured rider to Launceston General Hospital, but he died shortly after arrival.

Tasmania Police are investigating the circumstances of the crash, including to determine whether inattention was a possible contributing factor.

A report will be prepared for the coroner.

Authorities are appealing for witnesses or anyone with dash cam footage to come forward.
