Updated 9:50pm, Tuesday February 18: A motorcyclist has died following a crash on a rural road in Tasmania’s Central Highlands.
The 55-year-old man from Victoria was riding on Highland Lakes Road at Liffey on Tuesday afternoon when he was involved in the incident.
Police say the rider was treated by paramedics, but died at the scene.
“Initial inquiries indicate the man was travelling north on Highland Lake Road, Liffey when his motorcycle left the roadway and collided with a tree,” police said.
“Our thoughts are with the man’s family and loved ones at this difficult time.”
The road has since reopened to traffic.
Earlier: A motorcyclist has suffered serious injuries in a crash on Highland Lakes Road near Liffey this afternoon.
The incident occurred on the rural road between Liffey and Haulage Hill around 5:30pm on Tuesday.
Police say the motorcycle rider is in a serious condition and is being treated at the scene.
Highland Lakes Road is currently closed in both directions.
Motorists are being told to find alternate routes until further notice.
