Updated 8:15pm, Tuesday January 21: A motorcyclist has died in a crash on the Lyell Highway east of Queenstown this afternoon.
The motorcycle and a vehicle towing a caravan collided around two kilometres east of Linda at 1:50pm on Tuesday.
Tasmania Police said the rider sustained critical injuries and passed away at the scene.
Those inside the vehicle were not seriously injured.
The highway between Lake Burbury and Queenstown was closed for several hours while the scene was examined.
Police are investigating the incident and will prepare a report for the coroner.
“Our thoughts are with the family and loved ones of the rider,” police said.
The road has since reopened.
Earlier: A motorcyclist has been seriously injured in a crash with a vehicle towing a caravan on the Lyell Highway.
The incident occurred prior to 2pm on Tuesday about two kilometres east of Linda, near Gormanston.
Police are asking motorists to avoid the area and expect delays.
The highway is currently closed between Lake Burbury and Queenstown.
