The relocation of a heritage-listed railway shed to make way for Hobart’s proposed Macquarie Point stadium will cost more than $6 million, new documents show.
The circa-1915 Hobart Goods Shed currently sits in the middle of the planned $775 million multi-purpose stadium site.
It is set to be moved to the north-west gate area of the waterfront precinct.
Documents submitted to the Tasmanian Planning Commission (TPC) by the Macquarie Point Development Corporation (MPDC) estimated relocation to cost $6.5 million.
The figure was one of several to be recently requested by the TPC as it continues to assess the stadium as a Project of State Significance (POSS).
“After we submitted our POSS application in September, the TPC wrote to us late last year asking for more detail on some aspects of the project,” an MPDC spokesperson said.
“Seeking clarifications and further information is a normal part of assessing large and complex developments.”
The latest budget figures show the total cost of the stadium itself is projected to be $774.9 million.
