Nearly 3,000 runners to take part in annual Hobart Airport Marathon Festival this weekend

The Hobart Airport Marathon Festival is set to return this weekend in what is hoped to be a significant economic injection to the state.

The event is projected to attract 2,800 participants this Sunday, including more than 880 interstate and international competitors who will generate an estimated $1.2 million for the local economy.

Event Director Jason Crowther said visitors are expected to bring at least one additional person and stay an average of three nights.

“The Hobart Airport Marathon Festival not only brings runners together but also strengthens Hobart’s position as a must-visit destination. The economic benefits of this event are immense – from full hotels to busy cafes and restaurants, the entire city comes alive,” Crowther said.

The 2025 event will feature Olympian Milly Clark returning to defend her marathon title after breaking the women’s course record in 2024, while middle-distance star Ryan Gregson and Liam Boudin will headline the half marathon.

Boudin, who is returning after a strong performance in 2024, said is he excited to give the race another crack.

“It was a race which set me up well for the upcoming domestic road season,” he said.

“The weather in Hobart is close to perfect in April, and the amount of support on course is something I’m really looking forward to.”

The festival will support Variety The Children’s Charity of Tasmania, aiming to raise at least $25,000, adding to the nearly $70,000 raised to date.
