After some hiccups during development, a new $14.45 million ambulance super station has opened in Glenorchy.
The facility can accommodate up to 18 ambulances and is designed to future-proof paramedic services throughout greater Hobart.
Health Minister Jacquie Petrusma said the new super station is three times larger than the current Glenorchy Station.
“This station is all about our paramedics, about our workforce because they are working 24/7 every day of the year at times when we’re all at home, in bed or with our families,” she said.
“They do the most incredible work in the most difficult of circumstances, so they need facilities that enable them to do their job as best as they can.”

The station had an original budget of $10 million, which was increased by $4.45 million to “make it a superstation”.
Petrusma said the new station is part of a larger plan to expand ambulance services across the state.
“We’ve already done ambulance stations around the state from Bridgewater to Beaconsfield to Latrobe to Campbell Town, Dodges Ferry,” she said.
“And also in the future we’ve got Cygnet, Snug, Legana, King Island, Longford and Bicheno to still come online.”
